Accepted reasons for backdating income support
This applies to all backdating requests made on or after 1 April 2016.
Housing Benefit cannot be backdated for more than one month if the claimant makes their request on or after 1 April 2016 even if this is a belated request linked to a current claim.
You may also be asked to prove your identity, your home address, income and savings, so your passport, household bills, wage slips and bank statements should also be to hand.
If you're in a couple, you may have to think about which one of you should make the claim.
It is therefore very important that you contact as soon as you want to claim.
Get your claim form or letter to us as soon as possible because it affects the date your benefit claim will start from.
Backdating - Housing Benefit - Pension Age claimants - no change Persons who have attained the qualifying age for state pension credit will retain the three months automatic backdating (not actually backdating).

If the form is not returned in that time, the claim will start from the Monday after we get your claim form.
